What is the Wicked movie about?
Wicked the musical is based on the 1995 novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. In the stage adaptation, the show follows the backstories and friendship between Glinda (the Good Witch) and Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West). The movie will follow a similar plot, with Jon M. Wicked has run on Broadway for 15 years
The first Broadway production of Wicked took place in 2003, with the iconic Idina Menzel as Elphaba and the lovable Kristen Chenoweth as Glinda.

Throughout the years, new actresses have replaced Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth from the likes of Shoshana Bean, Eden Espinoza, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty, Laura Bell Bundy, and more.
Currently, Talia Suskauer plays the role of Elphaba while Brittany Johnson plays Glinda. The rest of the cast includes Sharon Sachs as Madame Morrible, Cleavant Derricks as the Wizard, James D. Gish as Fieyro, and Jordan Barrow as Boq.
While casts have changed, the magic and message of the show has stayed the same. Nothing is more important than female friendship.

Wicked film cast so far
In November, Jon M. Chu dropped the major news that Cynthia Erivo would star as Elphaba while Ariana Grande would play Glinda.

Cynthia Erivo is known for her time on Broadway, including her Tony-winning performance as Celie Harris Johnson in the 2015 production of The Color Purple. She’s also starred in films including Widows and Harriet. Ariana Grande is a household name in the music world but began her career on Broadway as a teenager in the show 13. Her acting credits include Victorious, Sam & Cat, and Scream Queens.
Our guesses for the rest casting for Wicked, the movie
While we don’t have any actual info on the rest of the cast, we have some theories and hopes for future casting.
Fiyero is the bold and charming leading man of the show. Although he seems selfish and condescending in the beginning when he begins to date Glinda, his genuine softer side comes through as he falls in love with Elphaba. Our first pick is Harry Styles. He’s charming, handsome, and has an amazing set of pipes. He’s already starring in 2 movies this year, so he’s got the acting covered.

Suppose the movie wanted to go for someone with more theatrical experience. In that case, there’s always Aaron Tveit (Moulin Rogue), Darren Criss (Glee, American Buffalo), or Jordan Fisher (Rent: Live, Dear Evan Hansen).

Nessa is Elphaba’s sister who becomes the Wicked Witch of the East. Since Nessa spends her life in a wheelchair, we’d like to see a wheelchair user portray this character. It would be cool to see Tony Award winner Ali Stroker in the role as she is the first Broadway actor to use a wheelchair to appear on stage. We’d also love to see a newcomer take on the part.

Another character, Boq, is a munchkin who pines for Glinda. Due to his love for the good witch, he agrees to pursue Nessa, even though he’s not in love with her. We’d be interested in seeing Ben Platt in the role because he has an amazing voice and has experience playing social outcasts.

We’re open to seeing anybody in the roles of The Wizard of Oz, Madame Morrible, and Doctor Dillamond.
