Hey, Hollywooders!
Now that Broadway is back, the ability to enjoy and experience live theatre is very attainable. There is nothing quite like watching actors perform on stage with a room full of people who are the most excited to be there. Think about the midnight premiere of a movie where all the people who go really want to be there. It’s like that, but on a much bigger scale.
As someone who was introduced to musical theatre at a young age, it became a big part of my identity in a positive way. Not only did it get me interested in watching theatre, but it also inspired me to read books shows were based on, engage with a community of people who shared interests with me, and inspired me to become a part of the technical crew for the musicals in my middle school.
So if your family loves Broadway or you want to introduce your kids to the world of musicals, here are some Broadway shows for the family.
Broadway shows for the family: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
For all the families who love Harry Potter, this could be the perfect play choice. Hosted at the Lyric Theatre, it runs for three hours and thirty minutes with one intermission. It is recommended for kids eight and up. The story takes place nineteen years after Harry, Ron, and Hermione saved the wizarding world. It involves their children who are the new generation of Hogwarts students, a race through time, and an epic battle to stop evil.
Tiff and her family loved it!
me, james and some of my family went to watch both parts of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child yesterday and it was really amazing pic.twitter.com/tTBFLpTZGJ

Broadway shows for the family: Disney’s Aladdin
Disney is always a kid-friendly choice. This musical is currently at the New Amsterdam Theatre with a run time of two and a half hours with an intermission. The musical comedy follows the story of “street rat” Aladdin who falls in love with Princess Jasmine. She can only marry a prince, but with Aladdin’s magic lamp and Genie, he has a shot to win the girl of his dreams.
The show received rave reviews!
Saw Aladdin on Broadway last night. 10/10 recommend.

Broadway shows for the family: Wicked
Showing at the Gershwin Theatre, this nearly three-hour musical is a much-loved classic focused on looking at the events of The Wizard of Oz, but it’s from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West before Dorothy arrives. This green-skinned woman is smart, talented, and misunderstood. When she meets a bubbly blonde, their rivalry ends up in an unlikely friendship until one is called “good” and the other “wicked.”
This child was mesmerized by the story.
What a MAGICAL night sitting front row at @WICKED_Musical featuring the phenomenal duo @sunnybrittney and @mslindsaypearce!! Myla was mesmerized the entire show!
Thank you both for showing Myla what two strong, talented women can do! @playbill #broadway #nyc #couldntbehappier pic.twitter.com/aGmpez2yEC

Broadway shows for the family: The Lion King
If your family loved the movie, this musical is a wonderful choice. Showing at the Minskoff Theatre, it runs for two and a half hours. It follows a lion cub, Simba, as he grapples with adulthood and the role he is supposed to serve.
This musical is a family classic.
Alex Cora spent Thursday night in NYC with his twin sons on Broadway seeing the Lion King. Cora nearly got choked up when he mentioned he took his older daughter Camila to see the same show 10 years ago. She is now a freshman at Boston College.
